FAQs
What ages do you teach?
I have taught students from 3 years old to active adult professionals to retired seniors. I have extensive training in both pedagogical and andragogical methodology and maintain continued teacher training.
What levels do you teach?
I teach complete beginners at every age to coaching professional pianists. I focus on building a comprehensive understanding of pianism and musicianship at each level.
Do you provide accommodations for special needs?
I have experience working with students with various learning diversities and medical challenges to create programs that celebrate their strengths and support their individual learning types. I also assist students with injury prevention and recovery.
Can I study music as a hobby/competitively?
Each student has a unique curriculum based on their individual goals. Either pathway provides a firm grasp on the fundamental elements of music. Students who have competed competitively have been ranked at the top of their divisions in state competitions.
What genres do you teach?
My main focus is on Classical solo piano repertoire from the 17th century to present. I also teach Jazz, Pop, Disney, and Sacred music if a student wants to explore other genres. I typically encourage most students to explore multiple styles and genres in order to become a well rounded musician.
What type of instrument do I need?
Students are strongly encouraged to have a tuned acoustic piano they can regularly practice on. Weighted key electric pianos with 88 keys can also be used for practice and lessons. However, the most substantial progress can only be made on an acoustic piano. I can assist with choosing an appropriate instrument to buy or rent.
Do you offer online lessons?
With a background in educational technology, I am fully equipped to offer engaging online lessons and assist students with their own technology.
What method books do you use?
Short answer: it depends! Every student has their own learning styles, musical interests, and unique background. I make sure to create a unique curriculum for each student that draws from multiple relevant sources and method books.
What type of schedule do you provide?
I have lesson openings weekday mornings through evenings. For children, I request they commit to weekly lessons during the school year to ensure consistent progress. Adult students are welcome to create a flexible schedule for lessons.
